 well another landmark my 50th hammered, , me and the vac had a afternoon out on the vale, started the day with a headstud  roman fibula, changed fields, low signal and their it was my 50th hammy little edward penny, its dark by now and the vac  had a last signal he said to me thinks its a milled shilling, back at the car using the lights, elizebeth hammy shilling  well done the vac but the day is mine 21-7 to the vac, but remember the hare and the tortoise Roll Eyes regards john

out today with lou 90.  my first horseshoe wow. you probably think im mad, but a roman horse shoe.  4 roman grots, roman suspension weigght and part of a roman latch bolt.  lou had to go to work, so i went shooting after, did not see a thing Roll Eyes

no james . its def iron tested with magnet, it must be the watery soil thats give it that colour,  regards john

Nice finds John, think the local badgers will be employing you with a hole that deep.
Now you are going to be peed off, I don't think it's a Roman horse shoe, looks like a relatively modern one, when they got stuck in the boggy ground I would assume that the shoe got sucked off as it pulled it's hoof out.
There doesn't seem to be much evidence of horse shoes other than the rare occasions a hipposandal turns up!

thanks hedgehog, but still think its very old anybody got pictures of roman horse shoes, or can date this one it was at least 18 inches down thanks john
