No matter how much History the place has and I do enjoy a good rally that is an expensive day out or weekend away. Give that a miss I think.  Cry

It really puts the £6 Detectingwales Rallies in context ladies and gents!

A weekend at the Chesterton Rally is the equivelent of 10 DW rallies - pretty much a years worth!

Thinking on for £6 what can you get a day out for. Travel costs occur for any day out but for the hobby we all enjoy thinking about it £6 is very reasonable just for the banter alone.

That speaks volumes Paul. some of the Commercial rallies are run purely as business ventures, where they try to capitalise as much income as they can.

My basic maths on 100 detectorists at £60 a head for the weekend = £6,000. granted there are overheads, but they probably clear £4,500 easily. Not a bad business plan on those returns!

I know of one a few years ago where the organisers had their own barbecue charging £3 a burger and were seen in the local Lidl's stocking up at £2 for twenty! They also had the audacity on the one in question to charge £2 a car parking on top of the £20 entry fee!

I don't think that does detecting any favours at all.

Well I can't comment on these other events, as I have nothing to do with them other than advertise them on my forum and here.

My event is £30 for the bank holiday weekend, but I have also given the Friday and the Monday Free, so if you divide that up thats 4 days detecting for £7.50 a day.....and I also limit the numbers.

Seems the other organisers are also putting up their prices, I have seen the increase over the past few years, it used to be £5 per day, then £10 then £15 and now £20

I suppose I can keep my prices down because I own the Marquees, which would normally have to be hired for £1000 + VAT, thats how much they charge now, I also own the generators which saves a good few £100's and all the other equipment required, so I only have to hire Toilets.

I have kept the same prices since we started and intend to keep them the same for the future.....

I will speak with them again, maybe they might listen??
