Hey Stig, did you know that can was full of worms when you opened it? Wink

They sure are wriggling.
As someone who read the words you actually wrote at not the ones you didn't, then yes I have to agree with you that the shooting and killing of any living thing just for the shear pleasure is abhorrent.
Culls are there  normally for a "good" reason and they are a necessary evil. I personally shot 109 cats in France for the local council because of feline AIDS, not enjoyable one little bit, but it had to be done.
But killing for killings sake, NO.

Geoff, i read Mick's words, they don't really tie in truly with the subject title though do they? why not call it Killing for killings sake Huh
as has already been raised, shooting can be for the sport of target shooting where the only thing killed is the tree to make the paper.
If this was to debate the rights and wrongs of of killing things "for the hell of it" then title it appropriately
and i would willingly give it 100% support.

I was repairing a roof on a Buddhist Temple (Strange but true), when we disturbed a huge hornets nest. Given that that the religion of the owners forbade the killing of all animals we informed the head priest (Or whatever Buddhists call them). This little bloke who looked like the Dalai Lama informed us that it was okay for US to get the spray and kil the nest. Must be okay for Welshmen to go to hell  Wink

Anyone who works in a chicken factory knows the suffering the birds go through.

As for the point about about this thread being about shooting well thats just preposterous. It would be like lumping qualified archaeologists and responsible metal detectorists in with Egyptian  grave robbers.

I don't disagree with the thread or the sentiment behind it, I very much disagree with the heading of the thread.

BTW. I would quite happily shoot a human being if I thought it necessary.

Kitten kebabs are also really nice and convenient, just thread them on to a skewer and pop them on the fire for 7 and a half minutes either side, umm lovely. Trust me I'm a chef. Roll Eyes

I've eaten hedgehog...and squirrell. I ain't a Chef like Geoff so I just applied a bit of logic and curried the hell out of it. A squirrell is nowt more than a tree rat so wasn't too keen. But I was flamin hungry! Then this guy offered me a can of Tango....but only if I repaired his roof.....
