Hi Dude, have a look for a section in the forum you feel relevent and post away, were all happy to help if we can.
Detecting discussions, or advice for beginners would possibly be the best place to post.

I must confess, i dont know, i've had a fair bit of land that i shoot, and aside from the organised rallies i have been sticking to that, but its an excellent question.
Al.Thepastfinder (Church villiage)is really switched on with the local scene, hopefully he may know the answer to this.
If your stuck for somewhere to go, send me a PM or e-mail, your welcome to come along with me, if your not in a club, i can highly recommend  R.A.R.E., the Rhondda Club, and your nearest, they meet opposite the Heritage park. There is a link on this site to the R.A.R.E. club page.

iron age Phil,

Overlooking the Clun at Rhiwsaeson, Caerau Hillfort is an oval, Iron Age enclosure, measuring 755 feet (230 m) (east—west) by 590 feet (180 m). Dating from 700 BCE, it is one of the largest known hill forts in south Wales. The defences comprise a set of two banks and ditches, with a counterscarp bank. Originally, the bank stood approximately 25 feet (7.5 m) high, though much of it has been destroyed, and only 100 feet (30 m) of the north east (the best preserved) part remain. Where the hillside below is steepest, to the south, there are no outer stone defences, though the inner ramparts continue to the cliff edge. The entrance to the fort, at the south west, is approximately 25 feet (7.5 m) wide, between parallel in-turned banks about 50 feet (15 m) long

Hiya Bluebird, welcome to the site and with one small question you have answered something that has been puzzling me.
Phil it's the biggest flipping iron age hillfort in South Wales and you missed it! No wonder you had problems finding the small bits with the metal detector LOL   Grin
