When asked if Great Britain should adopt the Euro as its currency a poll of 1000 people including Poles, Romanians, Pakistanis, Banbladeshis, Indians, Glaswegians and Liverpudlians stated no, they were happy with the Giro.

I rest my case.

That is just what I thought some time back. What a waste to even suggest a Euro.

I think the dole was started by the Romans way back; They felt that there should not be any poor Roman citizens so they were given money to lead a certain lifestyle. It seems that we adopted it at some point , what do the rest of the european community do , or anywhere for that matter?

I know that in Spain they give you two thirds of your normal income should you be made redundent for two years! After that I think it drops to a third. I have a friend in Madrid who works for the newspapers as a contracted photographer. He has been laid off twice and looks forward to it as he gets redundancy, two years on a third pay and loads of freelance work cash in hand.

I used to live in the Netherlands and their benefit system is second to none.

In Denmark if you are not actively looking for work they make you litter pick, lay tarmac, etc to earn your keep after 6 months unemployment.

Not sure on the others - I know that Greece has a pretty poor system.
