Hi all, Jettons are they coins or tokens? Has anyone else found any,I have one found years back nice patina cant seem to take a good enough photo to post  Grin Dave

Hi Dave , They do tend to come out of the ground in better condition than copper coins because they were made of brass. Used for accountancy and gaming pieces, this link will tell you all you need to know  Grin

You can get copper one's as well.

I don't do well for them in the U.K. which is a pain as its the British ones that are rarer. Most of these in the photo are from France/Germany. The only British one I found was from a river site in France !

You are right Brian , copper as well and lead according to the site, what I should have said was the brass ones are the best to find as they come out of the ground with the most detail on and as thin as they are you can almost immediately identify them as a jetton when you dig them up!

That's ok Dave , by the time you have read all of that you will be an expert  Grin

Brian those jettons are really nice, have you got a strongroom for your collection? Hope you haven't kept too many finds over the years otherwise you will need a bigger house. Bet there have been some lean times as a professional treasure hunter!

Dave could it be Hans Schultes ?  If so an early German type that were produced from 1553-1612
