Well at a loss this afternoon after watching the F1 so decided to fit the new armcups to the detectors as I plan on being out four days next week. We are lucky to have a few acres so popped across to a bit I have not detected before and being pleased with the stainless steel armcup and the fact that though it is heavy it actually balances out both Minelabs and I think makes them more comfortable to use. BUT I digress...... After twenty shotgun cartridges out popped what looks like a Roman to me and is Silver. IT needs a gentle clean but someone will know whose face it is so any ideas folks. I am sure the words on the front is --LIVS GERMANIA If that helps.

It's this one:-

Vitellius as Imperator, AR denarius, 69AD

obv  [A VITE]LLIVS GERMANICVS IMP, bare head right / XV VIR SACR FAC Tripod, dolphin above, raven below. RSC 115.

should be a rare coin, but I've seen quite a number of Vitellius turn up (not that I've found one I should hasten to add) Smiley.

Could be Vitellius. I had a contempory forgery of his a couple of years ago. The reverse was exactly the same as yours but I can not remember what the face on the obverse looks like. Will try and search for it later.  If your coin is of him and genuine it is a scarcer denarius than some as he only reigned for a short period. Hope that this helps. Alan.

Well I went back this morning and the same again. Three more Roman, Two Denarius defo and one well encrusted one which is soaking as we speak and is possibly another. Any idea on emperors heads please folks and it was exactly the same as last visit, 15 old shot gun cartridges then a Roman.

Lovely Jubbly Paul well so much for you saying you waited so long for your first Shocked you've certainly done some catching up lol
I think as Jay says the first is Antoninus Pius and three is as you say Vespasian, number 2 I think is Marcus Aurelius Wink
