Hi Peter,

The Deus seems to be attracting these little hammies like a magnet. Don't know why it can't be bothered to find them in good nick though Tongue

Judging by the size and the crown, thumbing through Spinks, I can only find a match with a Henry VIII halfpenny. The reverse is interesting to me though, because the "Long cross'' seems to stop short of the inscription where there is a letter 'O'. I presume that is a mint mark after the 'O', but I can't find it listed.

So thats me stumped again! (Nothing new there then  Roll Eyes )

As always, your expert opinion would be welcomed

Another great little find. I agree, first coinage London halfpenny of Henry VIII. The mintmark looks like portcullis, Spink 2334.

What looks like an 'O' outside the cross is the cross terminal itself, like this:

Once again, many Thanks Peter. I can see the portculis mintmark now on the obverse, and I've learnt something new about cross terminals.

One final question, would you know the meaning or significance of the little cross between 3 O'clock and 4 O'clock on the reverse or is it just how it is?

Cheers,
