Tyna's shiny new Deus arrived yesterday, so we hit the beach today to take it for a test drive.

When we arrived, we pulled up next to Mike (DWB) and Bryan.  They were just starting on the beach, so we donned our wellies and followed.

Tyna was using the Whites Pi (in readiness for the rain that, as luck would have it, didn't come until we were on our way home) and I powered up the XP Deus.  I chose the factory set wet beach programme and started across the sand, following the tide out.  Brian buried a gold ring on a length of string a foot deep for us to test our machines.  I only had the faintest of signals that, to be honest, unless I was looking at the control box, I wouldn't have dug.  However, as I worked my way across the beach it dawned on me to check what the pre-set volume was set at - and it was low!  I cranked the volume up on the headphones and felt more confident that if I went over a target at a reasonable depth, I would hear it.

I found 5 coins, a couple of bullets and loads of ring pulls.  The modern ring pulls consistently came up at around no. 47.  The coins came up in the low 90's - along with aluminium trash  Cry

No gold on this outing, but meeting up with Brian and Mike back at the cars we had all found modern coins, and Brian had a silver cross.

The Deus was light to handle, and the light headphones were great.  It was so good not having cables everywhere and only the coil and stem.  Being a spectacles wearer, the headphones made no dent behind my ears and I could happily use the machine for a long period of time with no fatigue.

My only gripe - I seemed to get quite a bit of 'chatter' - even though it was set to wet sand and I 'pumped' the coil.  Over to you RJM !!

A good afternoon out - nice to meet Bryan and Mike and look forward to seeing everyone at the rally a week Sunday.

If the Deus is a bit spitty on wet sand, then see what the upper GB reading is on average and set the GB at 1 above.

If the machine is still a bit chattery then turn the sensitivity down 3 or 4 . You can also use silencer (expert under
sens in menu) or reduce Audio Reacativity.

It sometimes can be a case of listening out for the good two way signals that shout out from the spittiness.

Personally, I think it would have been best to have started on pasture in Basic 1 program !

Having said that, you pulled a few coins so you've had a baptism !  Grin

Well done Debs - I enjoyed reading that.

Persist with the beaches and they will pay for the Deus . . . eventually!

I also hit the beach today and had a big fat zero on the gold front.

Bob - on the next rally, I want you to set the Deus up for maximum performance - not 'Basic 1"  Grin Grin

The good signals did stand out against the chatter, it is just that I am used to a more silent search until a target is located.  A bit reminiscent of early Fishers.

You are right Ray - it is a case of getting used to the different sounds of the machine. It will be another learning curve using it on the fields - correction - Tyna using it on the fields  Grin Grin

Hi Debbie.

Nice to have met you and Tyna at the beach today,  you did well to find all those coins first time out with a new machine, looks like you will be cleaning up in future with the Deus  Smiley.

Good Luck

Bryan
