A few people have approached me to ask if we could hold a raffle on detecting wales to win a Deus or Etrac. I've looked into and unfrortunately we would fall foul of the Small Lottery License Law.

It states that any Organisation need a Small lottery License to sell tickets for a large prize
It also states that 20% of the ticket sales would have to be put back into that organisation to make it legal.
Also that the prize would have to be announced at the end of a stipulated time scale.

It aslo states that operating a raffle without the above being in place and documented precisely - ticket numbers , names , addresses ect is a CRIMINAL OFFENCE. I'm sure DW members will understand if we dont run with this idea at the moment.

Clearly this is more complex than just posting up a raffle.

Hi Tafflaff

You don't need a licence for a Private Society Lottery...so you should be ok. There are a few stipulations on the gambling comission website which you need to stick to, and as long as you only sell tickets to club members (ie the society) you're good to go.

Hope this helps.

easiest way to find out what u can and cannot do, is to talk to the local council regarding raffles and licenses.

i'm sure they'll be helpful! --
