take a tip from me if you are planning on taking kids with you when beach detecting take some really big gobstoppers.
some time ago myself and my father were detecting on a local beach with my 2 girls, about 7 & 5 at the time, they were happy playing in the sand, kicking a ball about whilst walking behind us showing no interest really. when my youngest must have ran the length of a football pitch screaming at the top of her voice
"Bampi's just found a huge gold ring !!!!"
looking aroun i noticed that everyone within a good quarter mile radius had decided that perhaps sunbathing wasnt that important , sat up and checked their fingers for any missing family heirlooms.i calmed her down and explained that people were watching and, with a wink, told her to keep this a secret.
an understanding look came over her face , she turned quickly ,and running back to my father, shouted "Bampi, Daddy said dont tell anybody you found a gold ring !!!"
hence the gobstoppers.
p.s. dont use duct tape as you tend to get reported to social services  Grin

Al when they come along nowadays they use the sand scoop i've made. that way they "dont have to carry the heavy thing we just carry the money".
ideal scoop, made totally from pastic so will pass over coil, so strong even my kids couldnt brake it , they've tried.
