Ok. I was out for another 4 hours today, not quite as exhausting as I was on pasture, but also not as many signals.
I can now relax for the New Year festivities as I have my 12th hammy for the year giving an average of one a month (although the truth is I have found 9 of them in 4 months). So I'm well pleased.

It's a Mary but I must admit it has me a bit stumped as it is the size of a sixpence but only has her bust on it and I cant seem to find a match...Any ideas?Huh?
Not much else of any note other than yet another musket ball, a Queen Anne farthing, a 1923 farthing, a new 1/2p and what must constitute as my cutest find of the year, another thimble but the smallest one I have ever seen (that's a 1/2p it's next to).   Roll on 2011

well done young Chef -- a nice conundrum to end the year with.

re: small thimbles -- i got one of them and surmise that it probably fits a young infants finger [under 2 years of age]. -- so the hypothesis is that 'as the families hit them fields for harvest, the womenfolk and children would sow the bags of cereals up. I guess a youngster would be taught to sew asap, as it was a very practical skill and 'occupied their minds' - perhaps sewing on buttons etc

cheers

Thanks all and thank you Alan for the explanation re the thimble, I guess we tend to forget that child labour was at one time the norm.

Thanks Peter, yes just put it up against a groat of her farther and same size. I think the ones in Spink must be nibbled as they are definitely smaller.

Bob ground was great, almost as if the snow and ice never happened.
