..and here's the rest of the stuff. Buttons - including a lovely horse image on one of them, 2 lead powder shot measures, 1 crotal bell that rings, 1 long thin thing that could be part of a spur? and 3 coins - covering 2000 years in date.

cheers

To complete the picture then, here's my other bits too...

Help would be appreciated on the last two photos. Although I think the last one is a modern toy motorbike.

The new pictures are a little better Alan. I can confirm that the denarius is Julia Domna after all:

Julia Domna Denarius. IVLIA AVGVSTA, draped bust right / VENVS FELIX, Venus standing left holding apple and drawing out fold of drapery. RIC 580, RSC 198.

And as I said, the hammered is a Henry VIII halfpenny, London mint, Spink 2356.

LOL -- he could have had it sent over via red cross parcel!!!  - or maybe they decided to stay in UK at end of war, rather than being repatriated.

Local farmers are telling us stories of POWs working on the local farms!.

Cheers

Alan

ps - geoff -- how does the principle of the different detector frequencies work when detecting?  for example whats the difference between a 18khz and say a 12 khz machine? [and dont say 6khz!!!!]

Alan,
Strange you should say that about prisoners working on the farms. I went to suss out a derelict Medieval Church some time ago and found a re-built brick gate-way with concrete tops. One of which had come off and was lying on the ground. Scratched into it was a name (can't remember it) under that P.O.W. 1939.
