With a horn protector you see a thread inside where they
would have twisted it on the horn companion sets normally
pushed on to the poker and you would have a locking nut
on top

I forgot to say a horn protector  has a coarse
thread inside to cut its own groves

Looking at Al's pictures I'd say the middle one is like mine. I'll go with the poker id.

Thanks!  Grin

Well, it's exactly as the middle one in the picture he put on here.

Saying "what's a poker doing in the middle of a field" is a daft comment! You should know what things turn up
where you'd least expect them!!!!!!  Perhaps they had a fire going in the field and used the poker to keep the fire going?  Grin

He's produced the picture of 'poker handles' which the middle one is identical to mine with his having the iron still attached.

I just can't see how mine would have fitted on a horse. Sorry.

ha ha yes the pastry jiggers too, you know what kids are like they could have taken it out of an old house that was once there, or it could have got lost in the garden that was once there too,
the curved one could have been the tongs,

I found a small brass hinge crossing a field yesterday, what was that doing in the middle of nowhere. More important where is the box it came off and what was in it. Now I've got to go back and find out.  Angry Grin

Why did acorn symbals have to be cut off?Huh?
