Attached is a picture of a faint earth work I have found near me. At first I thought it was a tennis court or 5 a side football pitch until I realised it is on a slope and would make sport impossible. There are no reservoirs near this spot so any ideas folks.

Medieval up-hill tennis court.....they were all the rage Roll Eyes...............................
Well taking the sheep for scale it's quite small and being on a hill, I would of said a stock enclosure.

Also the more I look at it (difficult with a 2 dimensional image) the more it looks to have a ditch on the inside, thus stopping things getting out not in. Plus I think you can rule out deffensive use as you don't build a defensive enclosure/fort on a hill side as the attackers just stand at the top of the hill and hurl things at you.

Whatever it is Chef we have permission to have a rally there in late October so we can look at first hand.

Great result - well done Paul -  it certainly looks promising and something has definately been going on there for sure.

What do you think it is?

Knowing the area It could be exactly what Chef said a stock enclosure but I have never seen one this shape. They are usually square or rectalinear. If it is a stock enclosure I think it would be Iron Age like all the others in the area.

Neil or Chef how about it being one of these. the measurements are spot on and you do have a stunning view from it to all three entrances and exits into the valley.
