hello peeps i am a new member to the site and would apreciate some tips on beach detecting with a pi machine.i have had a couple of trips to barry island but not much luck apart from 3 novelty rings ,an old 1927 penny at 14 inches deep and the usual new coins.i did also dig a large amount of scrap iron though.my machine loves the scrap.lol.    any tips would be awsome because my arms are falling of with all the digging , thanks, mike Undecided

The best tip Mike is not to use too much discrimination, don't set to reject the ring pulls & bottle tops as you might miss some gold or silver rings. Id rather dig loads of ring pulls on the chance one might be a gold ring than discrim them out and miss the chance of finding them. Anyway all that digging is good  exercise lol  Grin

Hi Mike, you can discriminate with a PI machine but there's no point having one if you're doing that. I've used a PI for 15 years and there are few tips that might help. If you get a double signal as each side of the coil passes over an object then its small iron, you will also get this signal with the modern one penny and two pence coins. but no loss there if you don't dig them. Larger iron objects gove a wide signal so if you're getting a signal at the beginning of your swing and still in front of you, you know its rubbish. A coin or ring will always give you a very precise small area.
Last thing I can think of, if you get a sssh at the end of a signal, like the sound of cymbols, then its very large rubbish.
15 years experience all in 6 lines. Good luck, I think PIs are great, brought me some super finds.

thanks for the tips ,i did notice that the double blips tended to be hairclips and the shorter signals were coins but seem to get some nicer signals that turned out to be black porous rocks especially at barry beach, need 15 years experience i guess.lol .will keep on swinging till i get the elusive gold.cheers mate Cheesy

Hi Mike. Welcome to the site. Can't help with your query but have to say I love your Pici.
Can't post mine It'd make you all go mad !!!!!!
If it's any consolation, I bet you can't beat my scrape heap. Went to my local beach a few mornings ago found £1.11p and the usual. Met the bin man coming as I was going. He took all my rubbish and thought the 3 tent pegs would be usefull  Grin
Good hunting, keep at it.
