Hi Dale and welcome to the site. OK firstly NO ONE is near Aberdare  Grin.
Secondly, basically the rule of thumb on current technology would say that Motion machines have much better discrimination and non motion has greater depth, although, there are no top end non motion machines so the depth is not there because the detectors are not there.

Hi Dale

My advice would be to get involved with your local friendly Detecting Club WWW.RAREMDCLUB.co.uk. Grin

Nice one Phil. Sucked into that one I was Cheesy. I used to go training in the boeth hotel ( aikido not drinking Wink) before they smashed it too bits.
Do you do any local detecting or is it all club bassed?

Hi Dale
Im not originally from the boeth Im from Penygraig in the Rhondda.
Before i joined a Detecting club i did do a lot of local detecting.
I find club events and DW fullfills my detecting needs now and i have to fit Detecing in with my other hobbies and interests.
I just had a recount and RARE has 10 members in the Cynon valley.

From Abercynon up...
Me
Alan
Tina
Dennis
A couple from Caergarw
Debbie
Leighton
Steve
And our Vice chairman near Aberdare Byron.
The best way to find places to detect is to get involved with a club
you,ll aways get invites to detect locally

All the best

Hi again
Regarding Motion v Non motion.
Geoff covered it really, you can get great depths on Non motion machines but with no discrimination to speak of, you,ll spending a lot of time digging up unwanted deep ferrous targets.
They are Killers on the beach but there again you,ll spent a lot of time digging unwanted items.
Motion detectors are the industries standard now

The misses loves it Phil. She's the reason I got into it. In fact we've just come back from a farm that we have permission to use. We found a coin but don't know what it is due to the condition of it.

Hi Dale

We got 4 woman female Detectorists from the Cynon Valley alone I missed one out from Cwmbach, Sorry  Max !  Grin
I just had a quick count off the Members list and we have 13 Lady's in the club,so she,ll fit in just fine.

If you post a pic of your coin, im sure someone will be able to ID it for you ,or bring it along for our FLO (Finds liaison officer)  to have a look at it next Wednesday he comes every other meeting to judge our "Find of the months" competition http://www.raremdclub.co.uk/fom.html

All the best
