out yesterday in north somerset.whilst we were out on the field detecting.i see a guy walking across the field towards me..he asked me if we had found anything interesting..not as yet i said to him we.ve had better days..lol.
he said well i own the manor house across the road and over the centurys has had its fair share of history.besides he said you could do me a favour as well if you would.nt mind..he.d lost some type of copper plug near the water troph.s out on the field. he said it should be around the troph somewhere..there was no way i was gonna find it unless we dis-connect the water pipe on the troph and empty the water out and move the troph to the side as my machine was picking the troph up in force.after dis-connecting the water pipe and waiting half-hour for it to empty we then moved the troph and bang there it was first signal.he was thrilled that id found this copper plug.and then introduced himself to me. It turn out he is a transplant surgeon.he asked me if i minded him being with me out on the fields as he was.nt up to much at the time..more than wellcome fella as its your land im the guest..lol.
the history of the manor house..i could.nt take it all in on the field.he was saying it was the old court house of the infamous judge jeffreys..then some sheriff of north somerset lived there in 1627..then he said something about cromwells army.
anyway it just seemed interesting to say the least.after being out on the field for around 3hrs me and gavin managed a few medievil buckles and gavin managed a lizzy six-punce hammered and a few george the 1st and 2nd pennys and a few bits and bobs.around about 3.30pm we took the liberty of having our dinner in the garden of the manor house..wwooww what a garden it was fair-plays like..lol...apples..pears..and plum trees everywhere.he said we could take what we wanted which was exactly what we done..lol.we spent an hour picking these fruits off the trees.which is great really because im on a diet.theres enough fruit in the house for 2 weeks..lol.
after we took what we wanted too we asked him would we be ok for a return sometime. he said we are wellcome to come back anytime.after only having  a few hours detecting on his fields i think there could be more there thats why i asked for a return.
going back to the garden it was proberbly my bestest break whilst out metal detecting.and to spend a few hours detecting with a transplant surgeon was something else..i came home and i was thrilled if the truth was to be known.looking forward to our return nextweek.
ill leave you with a link on more about this historic manor house.

Nice one Ray, If it's the field behind the houses, I've detected there in the past I had a nice Denarius of Septimius Severus if memory serves me correct.

No not at all I was only there a couple of times, I always thought there should be some nice stuff there as it's just below a hillfort and a stater was found in a garden up the road.
