Decided we'd go out today as weather forecast was promising....lovely, warm and sunny as promised.

Had a prime field and spot lined up, but unfortunately the farmer wasn't home ,to confirm.....so me and Melonhead headed back to plot 2, where we've had quite a bit of luck recently.

By time we'd talked to the farmer, we started about 11'ish. Walked through the field we were in last week (found 2 silver buttons). It had been ploughed and ready to plant....better than last week.
But we decided to go on another new field, and after the usual couple of coppers, buttons etc...Mark (melonhead) had a big grin and came across and showed me  a silver duck brooch....a cracking find.
Soon after, I came across a hammered very worn.

Peter H (it's the size of a Henry vii / Lizzy groat). Mark decided to come over to the area and then found his hammered, in quite good condition. 2hours - 3 silver good result. After dinner we decided to move to another new field which will be planted this week....found a couple of coppers, dozen or so buttons (best being a livery button). Mark will post his findings, but on the whole another great day out.

Great finds for you both Smiley

Phil - Your coin is definitely Elizabeth I. If it's about 23mm then it's a groat.

Mark - You are right - a halfgroat of Edward III - I think it's Series C, Spink 1574.

And the duck brooch is a cracking little find, well done Smiley

Thanks Peterh

It's nice to know the details. Strange how 2 coins 200 years apart were so close. Both about 3" deep, and strangely the edward (the oldest) was in better condition. Is it better silver?

Thanks again.....got to be more there
