I have been sorting my own coins out for years , shown how to by a detecting friend of mine and have always (nearly) been more pleased with the coin after cleaning and straightening than I was with a bent cruddy coin sitting in my finds box!
The friend I refer to has been using these methods for far longer than me and very often sends them to a well known auction house and sells the coins well with no adverse remarks!
Rather than post the methods used  on here (I don't want to offend or argue the facts with the purists), I am very happy to send the information to you on a word document, so if you are interested pm or email me. Steve
