Our coach headed for this long awaited rally loaded with 39 expectant detectorists, including some of our friends from the Cardiff Scan Club.
We travelled through the village of Wootton Bassett, along the very street that has featured on the news recently, during the repatriation of our fallen soldiers.A very poignant moment.
The rally promised much, but only a few of the 600 or so attendees were lucky. There were the usual reports of something nice being found, but in general they were few and far between.
Never the less, some of our coach party did find some nice items.
Phil Jones, our treasurer, found a la tene brooch , complete and in amazing condition.Robert Lewis had some silver cufflinks, circa Henry 8th with the Tudor Rose engraved on them, a lovely find.
Des Thomas had a William and Mary  and some Maundy Money with “four shilling limit” on it. A gents 9ct gold ring was found by mark Watson.
Some were lucky to have found hammered coins too,Norman Oxley-Willaim 3rd shilling 1696, Ian Jones - William 3rd sixpence 1697, Karl Saltmarsh - a Lizzie half groat, Tina Pople - an Edward and a jetton, Maxine - some hammy fragments.Stuart Sutton found a nice Medieval lead token which the the letters PF on one side and the same letters reversed on the other.Rod Holt got some Georgian coins and young Ross got a musket ball….Well done everyone.
The weather was very hot and some of our members were showing signs of sun-burn.It was a day out that we all enjoyed.
Here’s to the next club outing.

Glad you all had a great day and the weather looked fantastic. Phil what a cracking Le Tene well done. Just two questions though Byron. Why is Melonhead doing an impression of Gary Glitter and where is Leighton,s left hand. I think we will leave it at that, well done all.

Is that gold, Karl, or is it a trick of the light, mate?

Lol, unfortunately Leighton, its a trick of the light Smiley it actually looks a lot nicer than that in the flesh.
ooh if it had been gold, the blister on my heel and the incessant moaning i've done would have been worth it Grin

That ring is very nice indeed melonhead, considering the slim pickings that were over there, i think the RARE bus did well Smiley
