well me and my partner both have used many detectors we now use mostly a ta150 this works great and be shocked on how deep these work.
charles uses the 250 model which he can use very well and it's depth is alittle deeper fractionally because he uses in all metal and visually discriminates iron.

My lads using a Garrett Ace 250 and I was shocked by the depth it was getting. No problems picking up an old 3d bit at 8 inches in my garden. Picked up almost everything my Minelab detected. I've read a lot of Minelab users have them as back-up machines when they want a rest from the weight, and a bit of fun, or need a smaller coil.

Can you buy a larger coils for them ??

Ive never used notch on any of my past detectors but i was impressed at the Notch on the 250 when i had a go of one .
Can anyone tell me if theyre good on a wet sand ?

As far as I know, Phil, you can get the 6x9 coil and the 9x12. You get a little more depth with the larger coil but the smaller one is more receptive to small targets. I've never used one on the beach so I can't help you there.

Ive got a fisher F75 but its not a very good wet sand machine ;0(
I might get a 250 if i can find out how they handle the wet stuff

In answer to your question Phil , about different coils for the Garrett Ace.

You can get a larger 9x12" standard spider coil, and Joan Allen are selling Detech SEF Coils - 8x6", 12x10", 15x12", to fit both the 150 and 250 Machines.

These are however picey, but have a good write up ( see page 43 of Jan Treasure Hunting Mag for prices )

Phil, the 250 is hopeless on the wet, you have to turn it down so much you would be better off with a bent stick, I think Whites have the market cornered for the cheaper beach machines. Oh and some of the C-scopes.

Your spot on with that Geoff, the wife tried her ace 250 on wet sand at Porthcawl, no hope at all, put on the dry sand though and it did very well indeed.she found more than me
For what they cost they are very impressive little tools, just don't even think about putting near wet sand

 don't bother with the big coil its a con .
i used my 250 and my lad his i with big coil his with norm his finds rat was better even when i followed him i got nothing he me he found things i missed we swap change and the norm coil came out on top everytime try it its true .
 we tested this every way we could and over all condisons over a few months .
 the big coil misses things its not no more deeper in my eyes and its just a wast of money buying £99 to carry more Wieght
