No it's not a trumpet brooch. A trumpet brooch is named because it has a conical end similar to the horn end of a trumpet.

i can see where you are coming from and would agree that that was my initial understanding of a trumpet brooch. however, i think the definition of 'trumpet' may be wider in academic circles.

below are  links which suggest that maybe bobs brooch falls within the wider definition, than our own understanding.

Alan, Link 1 and 2 are or were shaped like a Trumpet and 3 is difficult to see from the side. It's the cross piece that makes it a Crossbow brooch. none of the above have a defined cross piece.
