Steve, I know some do but I have never had any luck using the telephone. I always go door knocking, usually about 6.30pm and wear a jacket and tie (not ultra tidy) with the story that I am just on my way home from work. I have found that if you turn up looking as if you are ready to detect the farmers feel a bit intimidated. Plus I always leave them with a smile and a card regardless of permission. It works for me.

Steve, Save your petrol and phone bill, come and join the Scan Club, we have loads of club land you can detect on Grin (shameless plug Wink )
apart from that, i think you'll find that area highly contested, it pretty popular, but going back to my shooting days, i must have called to over 100 farms, only got permission from 3 or 4, but, once your pally with the farmer, they'll introduce you to there mates, then its plain sailing, don't loose heart.

Hi Leighton, For New members, Its £22 to join including your NCMD Insurance (i know you have FID, Its a long story i'll explain when i see you, but you have to have NCMD cover to be a Scan Club Member) + £5 to cover the new member pack, this includes a comprehensive bound A4 book covering some interesting detecting hints and finds I.D. info plus it outlines all of the club land and contact details, post codes Etc to enable you to detect on Scan Club land, in conjunction with your current valid Membership  I.D.
So in summary it's £27 total for a new member.
Cheers
