Ok found a hammered today whooohooo. , how on earth do I  ID it , what do i look for? On one side its got a shield with a cross going through it all that surrounded by a circle, not a face on the other side possibly a man on horseback, looks like a king riding to the left. any ideas? I will try and het a pic up but its very faded.

Sounds like a Charles I Halfcrown to me, and potentially a valuable coin. Any chance of a pic.

Hi Rob I think it may be a Queen Elizabeth I siver two pence she ruled from 1558-1603 and one coin that was struck for almost her entire reign was the Silver Twopence. On the obverse is her crowned bust facing left and on the reverse is a coat of arms with a cross, superimposed over the top.
None of these Silver Twopences are dated but they do have a very important device to tell you the denomination. You have to remember that at that time many people were illiterate, coupling that with the clipping of coins and the fact that the coins didn’t carry a denomination and you get chaos.
So behind the Queen’s head are two pellets or dots like yours, this represents the number two as in Two Pence. Grin
