baden, just a quick question on your 1220xd. My 1220b used to nuts within about 15 feet of other metal detectors, does the the xd do it or have they fixed it on the later models. The reason i ask is im selling a xd for a friend but miss my 1220b so may buy it for myself.

Kaister i have used the 1220xd for years and the only machine that causes any problems with it are the minelabs you get a load of interference from them.

I didn't like the following

C Scope 2M (Falsed in wet grass!)

Fisher Coinstrike (Too much messing with the threshold)  Fisher 1230.

Tesoro Vaquero (Ground balancing a pain)

Minelabs (purely because of the weight and NOT performance) although I did like the Tribune and Musketeer.

That's my penny worth....as said, someone reading this may think one of the machines mentioned is brilliant.

Technically I've still got it...................may get it back from the dealers (where it's been languishing for 3 months waiting for a part exchange against the Deus) just to get my own back on Minelab users ! Grin

As there seems to be a few of us that are cheesed off by the nauseating Minelab pulse spoiling our peaceful enjoyment of detecting, I will ring the dealer at 9.01am on Monday morning and get it back  Grin Grin Grin

I cant say anything about a fisher picking up hot rock
i have owned many detectors and currently own a
whites dfx and a minelab sovereign gt if the hot rock is
a fair size i will pick them up does this make it a bad machine?
no i dont think so all machines do the same job you got to walk
over it to find it i  would never call another mans machine rotten
beauty is in the eye of the beholder but i always  say you pay for what you get

Here we go,

I have used the CScope 1220xd for a few months now and on different surfaces and under different conditions.

On dry sand, it gives a clear and deep signal, and it works on dense wet sand but needs a little tweeking.

On hot rocks, it definitely gives a middle of the road signal and when you know that it discriminates well.

My only problem with it is that it gives the same signal for BIG rusty items as it does for a small bronze coin, (I have such a wonderful collection of rusty plow pieces and horse shoes that the scrap dealer who comes round the streets thinks I am making the stuff) and it picks up fine iron threads like pins so well it has to be seen to be believed. My eyesight often fails me when I am searching through the lump of earth to get that strong signal, I ended up making myself a pin pointer to make it easier to find the little bits I was getting such a strong signal from.

Having said all that, when it actually picks up a coin or small lead piece it gives a nice signal.

As you get used to using it, it definitely finds what you are looking for, but try to avoid iron contaminated ground if you can, coz you may have to shell out for paracetamol for the headache you'll end up with.
