is there any mileage of DW holding an exhibition of members finds, later this year [perhaps in cardiff??], where we can come along and bring our finds along to show to members of the public?

i'd be very happy to bring my finds to an exhibition. think of the excellent press we could generate.

what do others think? is there any mileage in this idea?

cheers

Sounds a fantastic idea Alan  Smiley

Maybe in one of the museums, they could give us an area for a day/weekend.

I did approach the National Museum of Wales last year about doing a short term exhibition of members finds. Whilst they didn't say no, they did say that we'd have to organise it a year or two in advance...

Good to see a positive response. There are 2 options for venues, as i see it. Either Museums or hotel conference rooms.

some hotels will be happy to negotiate a deal for a conference room hire, [particularly  at w/e when they are often empty]

museums may have a better rate, or provide a freebie.

just a thought - how about the university and their premises?

early days i know, but some food for thought. i'm happy to help with the organisation!

cheers

just an aside to this idea, last night my colleague and i took our finds and delivered a talk to the local womens institute. over 40 ppl attended and many were farmers wives and we came away with 3 offers of land to search.

however the highlight of the evening was one lady who pulled out  a gold coin and asked me what it was .. it was dated 1790 and was a george 3rd spade guinea. she said her dad used to carry it around with him until he died and she only discovered it in his wallet by chance.

the value lies between 150 and 350 .... it was the 1st spade guinea i'd ever seen -- i just wish i'd taken  a photo of it.

oh well .. here's to the next talk!!

an exhibition is a great idea ! the national museum would be the best place,in my opinion.....even if it takes a year to organise i still think it would be worth the effort...i'm sure there will be no shortage of volunteers to help with this project.....GO FOR IT i say...... Wink....byron

Just a thought, I work with students from all parts of the world in Cardiff,   I wonder IF I could set up a place in Cardiff, Students union or another venue to set up a place for our finds we would have the worlds students visiting, it would be a great opportunity to sell our hobby,
