A noble was worth 6s. 8d (80 old pence) from that period, so a quarter noble would be worth 1s. 8d (20 old pence).

Depending on which price index you use for the year 1327 it would have been worth anything between £36 - £692. Quite a sum of money, the loser must have been gutted !

Great find Kev. It is indeed an Edward III quarter noble. I see you've submitted it to UKDFD so you should get a fuller ID there.
