Received a "delivered by hand" Xmas card today through the letterbox from a farmer who`s land i detect on,thanking me for the case of beer & card i`d dropped off before Xmas day.Inside the card was these 2 coins & a little note saying thanks for showing the farmer & his family the finds made & the Silver coin & Token i had gifted them.
Has anyone any idea what they are?

The second one is a Victoria Diamond jubilee medal, these are not uncommon and come a variety of designs, I have even found a lead one.
the first is a mystery, the reverse looks like a spade guinea or a fraction of and it says George III but the portrait is all wrong, but it looks too good an  engraving of somebody  to be a forgery. weird but interesting.

if by chance its not a george 3rd gaming piece, then if u check out spink, guineas and half guineas, you will see the reverse design as shown in the above picture.

i can't read the date properly if its 1761, then theres no record in my spink, of coins with that date -- but maybe its there in the latest edition.

if it is indeed a guinea/half guinea - well done its worth hundreds

cheers

if the date is 1701 then yes i'd agree with william, if its 1761, then george 3rd.

my eyes aren't that good and the date looked like 1761 ..

Spoke to Gwyn(the farmer) on the phone & apparently they was found by builders under the floor boards during the farmhouse renovations ! He thought i might have an interest in them,so passed them on.  Wink

what a lovely gesture - it would be worth photographing them and giving a written report of what each one is .. then give gwyn a copy - perhaps in a thank you card . or b'day card !!

well done on having a very supportive farmer
