Case File:- Casa Dos

Name:-KEVAN
Age:-51
Home Town:-Pontllanfraith
Detector used:- MINELAB EX 11, MINELAB XS

Tafflaff(Rob) - How long have you been detecting for Kev ?

Casa Dos- I've been detecting for 6 years.

Tafflaff (Rob) - Are you a member of any club at the moment ?

Casa Dos - I'm not a member of any club at the moment as i do shift work I've got no time to get to meetings and stuff !!! so like staying an independent detectorist.

Tafflaff (Rob) - What or who got you started Metal Detecting ?

Casa Dos - A friend in work got me started. He was telling me how his brother asked him would he go detecting with him instead of playing golf because his son had died, and they had always gone golfing on weekends. He did not want to go anymore because there were too many memory's. My workmate asked me if I wanted to join them detecting. It started from there really out of a changed hobby from friends sad loss.

Tafflaff (Rob) - Did metal detecting develop your interest in history or have you always had an interest?

Casa Dos - I have always been intrested in the past. We had the 'War of the roses' rammed down our throats day after day at school and I've always been intrested in the Vietnam war. As I have got older I've in turn got more intrested in history, but I must say since Metal detecting has come along as my hobby, Its developed my interested in all our past history.

Tafflaff (Rob) - What era of history would you have liked to live through and how best could you have contributed to that era ?

Casa Dos - I would have liked to live in the Romano British era. It would have been a privilege to have seen all the technology and achievements the Romans brought to Britain, it must have been a strange time for the Brits also a great change for them as well.

At the time i think I would have been the type of person that would have tried my best to help the Romans better our country. That said I think I would have liked to have been an adviser between the the Romans and the Brits to help them understand each other better.

Falloff (Rob) - Back to detecting Kev. Whats your best coin and artifact to date, and whats high on your wishlist of finds ?

Casa Dos - The best coin I have found so far I think is my HADRIEN Denari AD136 found near Usk in April 2008.

As artifacts go it must be the LEAD FACE i found at Park Seymore near Newport in September, which is now at the Cardiff museum of Wales. At the moment Mark Lodwick is looking at it and trying to to id it for me.

As for something to wish for there is a few, Any Henry Eighth hammered coin. I've never yet found one. I think also any gold coin really. At the end of the day I love this hobby and any good find is a bonus, I just love this hobby of metal detecting! Grin

Tafflaff (Rob) - Kevan, thankyou very much for your time. Very interesting and dedicated detectorist.

Hi Kev it's Brian aka mapie you did'nt mention that time we found the hoard of axes & swords, but that could fall into an area of most embarrising moments for all who were there, that is except for the perpatraitor. Although I've still got the piccy of all goods laid out on my fleece. Take care m8 & I'll check back with you & ade later.
