I'd like to know what people think of this as well. I think both need to be brought up to date with a better online presence. Everything seems too archaic at the moment.

I agree with Jon, FID should by now have an online registration form instead of sending everything through post  Undecided Undecided

i think the "why?" is easy....you have insurance cover for damage to property/animals......which one is a matter of choice.....i'm in FID because our club uses them...both are representing the hobby with the bodies who govern the countryside and against the detractors who would like to see us banned.....byron

I agree that it is a good idea and they both have many good points. However, they both need to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. As is proved by this website, many detectorists use computers daily and a website that took payments electronically would surely increase membership. The Post Office strikes only highlight this.

I meant which one and why???
It goes without saying the importance of each body.
They don't seem to be using the fees to modernise/update their material or methods of collection or information.

You are spot on Betel. No sign af them modernising unfortunately. They are not moving with the times.

Very good point folks and the almost invisible presence is shocking really as for what they represent. The least they could do is place themselves on the homepages of detecting websites such as this great one. With there own website linked into this, membership would surely benefit as Jon said with electronic payments are far superior option to our troubled postal system.
