Getting hammered would be my preference, mainly because a lot of the Roman coins that turn up are in such poor condition.

Not Neccesary either for me , just something I have yet to find I'm happy with. To be honest . Coppers still do it for me.

I'm happy with anything that isn't a ring pull or tin foil at the moment, Cheesy
If its of interest or value, older than me, and hopefully in better condition, i'm happy Smiley

I've found around five times more hammered silver than roman coins and would love to find a roman silver coin. Hopefully it'll come soon so for me if I'm gonna be fussy I'll say roman.
At the moment tho any port in a storm they say! Sad

Same as Peter - hammies for me.
I also like Karl's take on this !!!
Plus, if it is in Spinks or Benet's and in recorgisable condition, I'm happy. Cheesy

hammies just look the part to me  Smiley if you had never seen a medieval coin you would prob imagine something no far from what we find, full on goth design heraldry and crosses all crisp in silver . not taking anything away from roman coins but for me a hammered dose what it says on the tin  Grin Cheesy

Ive found plenty of hammered but no Roman (worth keeping anyway) even though my detecting buddies seem to find Roman often, so I guess it's Roman for me, although hammies are always welcome  Grin
