At last never found a complete one before. Had a great day on this field although most of the items are broken, it is in stubble and workable (it's high but brittle now). Have been on the field many times over the years but the finds came up grudgingly, nothing for the past three years!
Thought I would give it a go today and this little lot turned up, But , Alas , that is my only chance to get on it, it will be disced tomorrow for minimum till, DAMN!
Put the pottery in just to point out that if you see slipware and the pottery blue and white that is another clue to the hammies being there.
All the buckles broken (field is worked every year), nice little plain strap end shame there is no decor on it to help with i.d., and the other little piece is , I think a bronze sleeve for a knife blade where it attaches to the handle. Must be lots more on there (it's in a giving mood) but don't know if I will be able to go back on there.  Sad

Nice finds Hedgehog - I like the knife piece that would have sat at the top of a sheaf to help guide it in - well ID'd. On second thoughts I can see a bit of iron on it so it may well be a knife guard  the bit which stops your hand sliding down the blade. Hard to tell without seeing it in the flesh.

Does the purse bar have any decoration on it? Its not uncommon for them to be inscribed. Also if they lost the purse then I wonder where the contents are - as you say its not broken, so they'll be there somewhere!

Cheers

This also proves the point that even if you don't find something in a field, keep on trying becuase something can turn up even after it has been detected on for several years....nice finds

Thanks for the nice comments, I have had only one good year for finds on the field Malcolm and you are absolutely right, keep trying , it seems when they are turned over sometimes the finds disappear for approx. 7 years and then turn up again.
1 field that I was expecting to find on this year turned up nothing and it could be a few years before it does so again, I hope vitallius (Dave) reads this and doesn't get despondent about the Tumpy field because I think with patience and perseverance the finds will come back on most fields.
