hi all, i have just started detecting again, after a break of about 18 years! previously i had been a detectorist for about 10 years.

i used to live and search in staffordshire, but now live in montgomeryshire, so detecting in wales will be all new to me.

Welcome to the site Monty - glad you found us. You may find a few things a bit odd about detecting in Wales, namely that although we find them hammered coins are not as plentiful as they are across the border and crotal bells are pretty much non existant in Wales. Plenty of Roman to be found though.

The one thing I will say though is often the quality of the finds can be outstanding. Have a look at Bill Wymans book or some of the news articles I have posted on here for example.

Have fun and post some of your finds.

Cheers

hi, thankyou for the warm welcome.

i have no new finds to post yet sadly, hopefully that will change over the coming months.

nice to hear there is roman about, that is one thing i previously found very little off.

are there many celtic coins turning up? that is one thing i never found, although i was there are on three different occasions when some other lucky so-n-so's dug up gold staters.

simon, which part of the county are you? i live in montgomery itself.
