How will two small chips out of the coil affect the peformance of my detector, i keep getting a foil tone on every sweep, yet my friend using the same detector doesn't have this problem , could it be the coil damage?

it would depend on how big the chips are mate  was your friend next to you when you swept the coin  as the same machines will set each other off  you could always borrow your friends coil and try it on your machine to cheak it

It could be many things including the settings on your detrector or maybe contamination
between the coil and coil cover.
As regards the chips where on the coil are they? are they deep enough to allow water ingress?? as suggested try your m8ts coil on your machine if the same make and see
if you have any difference....good luck anyway.....PaulB. Cool

Thanks for the replies, the two chips are on the left front lobe , they haven't broken through to allow water in, when we compared detectors ( ace 250s) we tried them separately , so there was no interference, to compare them we set them both the same, i kept getting foil tones and he got nothing? at the time i didn't think of swapping the coils over , i,ll do that next time, but it won't be before the weekend, if i still get the problem , i'll assume my detector has developed a fault, at least my ace is under warranty,  thanks again Mike   OH by the way , my mate seems to pick up thinks that i miss!!!!!!!

A coil swap is the normal first move in this situation. If the faults still there the only thing it could be, if the water hasn't got in, is a connection in the coil coming off, possibly from the faraday shield.
