Ok just an idea , I saw quite a few new starters wandering around the last rally , looking slightly perplexed.

What if we had a buddy system where people with similar machines could pair up with more experienced detectorists on rallys or even if they did not have similar machines , they  can always start learning what items are and have a bit of company on a Rally.

I know this will not be everyones cup of tea. Some detectorists like to detect on their own for various reasons, but if you're open to the idea I could see it very beneficial to newbies , and possibly slow the drop out rate of new detectorists.

thats a great idea rob. it's always good to share experiences.

regretfully mrs handyman and I, cannot make the next rally in sept -- to much going on this end. however i must report that mrs handyman got her 1st hoard in llandudno last w/e.

well when i say hoard, i mean £4.65 from one hole!

i got 10p and an earring!

good idea taff im new to all this and havent had much experience the buddy system i think would be both benalficial to meeting new friends and learning the ropes i agree i think you should start a pertition to see how many members would want to do this as attending a rally for the first time is an intimedateing thought

good idea phil coggle could buddy up with me with his fisher 70 and jonny fox could team up with maxine and her fisher 75 then at the end of the day when they've seen what a pro machine can find they'll stop boring us with tales of the explorer.  mike

So what detector is the best then.  The Fisher 70 or the Explorer  Huh I think this subject needs a heathy debate.

i like the thought of a 'heathy debate'.

images of ppl lying around on the common, drinking & discussing long into the night.

come to think of it -llantwit major campout!!

hedgehog - the 'giveaway' tends to be when you see the search coil over a foot up in the air at the end of each right and left swing - just the way I used to do it when I first started  Grin Grin  Actually, pretty much what I do now when I am rushing over the field to keep up with AncientPat  Grin Grin
