guy's i think it is a giude rail from a electric fence i have found a few of these if you look at the hole there is a large chamfer in it not to chaf the wire.if it was a stair rod holder there would be no need for this lead in.
only a guess mind nice to see unusual things and try to find out what they are for. Wink Grin

Judging the current conversation , I think its shocking that two amp ly capable detectorists have sparked up such a silly thread Watt are you playing at! I'm going to blow a fuse.

Thanks Phil and Steve for the support - I know I am right, as do you two as expereinced detectorists.  These new young upstarts don't know a Chafing Dish Handle from a Palm Guard! Grin Grin Grin

They need more respect for their elders!

Oh and Millsy, "your not WAAAAING any more!" Grin Grin Grin

cheers

P.S. I have so far gone through 100+ magazines and still not found it! Shocked

The Commuter cable tidys Ive seen in the British museums annual report clearly places these handly little fella in the middle Iron age.
Medieval computer cable tidys are the modern curly wurly black/gray plastic type

Im glad i was able to clear this up lol  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Tongue

You are right it's about time the "old " thinking was challenged on this Millsy, if you remember I posted one up a while back because I don't believe they are off stair rods either. I must say for a "young" chap Neil is very set in his opinions and maybe needs to open his mind a little  Grin
A Question, you only find one or two occasionally in a field, what happened to the other 20 odd?

I was thinking maybe it is off a piece of furniture that would have a small rod on as a hanging rail for something, that brought me to the conclusion that it may be a hanging rod off a washstand or something of that nature!
