I had a reply from the crown estates at last.So i have enclosed the letter for anyone interested.Just follow the link to get your permits.

Our metal detecting permit is now available online and can be applied for at http://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/metal-detecting

We do not often grant permits for our rural estates as they are nearly always occupied and rarely derelict.  If you however have a specific area that you are interested then please send a note to enquiries@thecrownestate.co.uk and they will be able to pass it onto the appropriate estate manager, unfortunately I deal only with our marine estate.

Regards

Iain

Hope it helps anyone who is interested.

Thanks for posting this Daf

My personal thoughts are
when the Crown estate used to charge £15 per beach per year holes no deeper than 6 inch's blah blah They found it was impossible to police so they scrapped the fee approx 2 years ago.

Is this a way of finding out how many  Detectorists are using the foreshore ?

Perhaps in the future we may be charged again when they find out how much money can me made

Well they haven't had a penny off me in the past and they certainly wont get a penny off me in the future.

I want to be wales 1st Detecting martyr lol I may chain myself to a donkey on trecco bay lolol

All the best
