Dont think so Taff, as the hallmark seems to be in order, have'nt had gold tho with crud on before from the sand or soil, I have had quite a few gold rings from the beach with black tarnish, but never crud. Thanks Millsy for the tip! Smiley

you get the odd ring with a build up of crud if they've been in the sand long enough and the solder weld rot's away. nice looking rings dont bother cleaning them weigh them in now gold is at a good price

That's a nice find Maxine, the ring is 9 carat , so is a mix of mainly gold and copper, the green is the copper being leached out by the action of the salt in the sand!

Hi Maxine,
Nice find as time goes on and you find more of that age ring many of them will be in that condition if they are 9ct as Hedgehog as mentioned, becareful with it as they tend to be very fragile in that condition if you should drop it they very ofter shatter !! Be warned, keep up the good work.

Well found Maxine.

I concur its the age of the ring, salt water and the copper content that has brought the green out. You maybe able to stabilise it as the hallmark looks legit to me. The 9ct is only .375 parts gold so the rest is likely to be copper. Unucual to see one so green though.

Another nice find - well done Maxine. I have only had silver off the beaches this year, but then again I have only made 4 trips.

Cheers
