Ref to KenKelowna`s Q "what`s a Joey"
There were two types of threepenny pieces prior to decimalisation in 1972 - a small (8mm) older version, originally silver and a later, different, larger(13mm) and more common type of coin - 8 sided and made of some yellow metal. The former was known as a 'Joey', but not the latter. Sadly, I don't know where 'Joey' came from. If I find out I'll post an answer.

Competition Update!

Well done on the guesses ladies and gents. Still no definitive winner, although one of you has it half right {the amount} and if no new guesser gets any closer on the year, they will obviously win the coin.

Cheers

Gents - the competition ends as on the original post which is:

"To enter all you have to do is either have made over 5 posts since DetectingWales.com was formed OR to have made 5 (sensible please) posts before 6pm on Sunday 26th July 2009!"

We always run them for about two weeks or so to give everyone a fair chance, and always announce the winner on a Sunday as its normally the busiest day on the site.

Thanks again Phil for the prize.

Cheers
