After this mornings jobs were done, I took a trip to a local beach today where it was blowing a gale and literally stripping the sand from the stones in front of my eyes. Now I know this beach well and never knew there were stones where they were starting to appear. So what the Hell, I concentrated in this area.

My first find was an eyes only due to a bottle potruding from the sand - I thought initially it was a modern bottle, but when I pulled him out intact he turned out to be from W Winslade of Cardiff - how apt. Any idea on age John Pugh? Its in perfect condition.

Next came a bottle marble and then literally shards of pottery everywhere. Then came a couple of 1954 sixpences, a 1929 half silver shilling, a half penny 1923, a vicky penny,  a small enamelled butterfly - back may be silver, a small cherub - just did the foil test also silver, a piece of silver chain, a toy lead motorbike, an ear ring and finally it had to happen - a ring!

Just tested the ring and its also silver, I don't think for one minute the stones are the real things - but you never know. I'm over to my parents house for the stone tester later! I had a few lumps of corrosion that still gave me good signals - I am confident that the one has a coin in - need to get the dremmel out later.

So the moral is never give up on a beach - its all about condition and today was just about perfect. Well pleased for just 3 hours.

Everything needs a good clean, so more photos later on.  Any good tips for cleaning beach silver anyone?

Quick update - the back of the butterfly is also silver - making it a five silver day!

Woohoo my personal best has finally gone after a couple 4 silver days and several 3 silver days!
