Have looked at many and varied Gurkha cap badges, stable belts, belt buckles and think you may have been misled by whoever told you it was from that regiment. Can't find anything resembling it. It seems to have STRENGTH on the right hand side. Any lettering on the left?

Asked around a few people I know. Had a few answers.One of the gentlemen who replied is a curator of an army museum and others are well versed in army paraphenalia. no one seems convinced the crescent , eagle and lion badge is British.Here are a couple of replies;

I've looked at this badge long and hard, and I have reached a conclusion.

The Lion of Britain; the Eagle of 2nd Empire France & the device of the Ottoman Empire. I wonder if the badge is missing the crown of the Kingdom of Sardinia. The allies against Russia in the Crimean War.

Could the legend read Unity in/is Strength?

1517 - 1844 the Ottoman Empire used three crescents in their flag

Still looking for something definite.

Cheers Paul. I love the old cap badges. I want a few old Shako plates next though. Find locations are good too. I find the I.D. ing as much fun as the finding to be honest.
