Depends what colour your finds are,
Try a contrasting background for impact
. Ie Nice green patana pieces look well against shades of red ,pink or orange.
 Pastel yellows or light blue works well with silver.
 As long as you choose a plain (not patterned) block colour.

If you are using digital camera the sensers may have a blue or green bias,(photos dont comeout as expected) so play around with a few colours to see what suits you and the camera best.

Yes it does depend on the artifact and the lighting on what colour to
use

I always use white, really don't like other colours as I tend to think they detract from the subject, and a white background makes the coin/artifact stand out on its own, no square frame if you get what i mean  Wink

Thanks. I use a Panaosonic Lumix FZ20 digital SLR.

Getting a bit old now, but they are very good, came out tops in the camera press for quality as they use the Leica lense.

And really easy to use. I need a quality piece of kit as I sell jewellery on ebay.
