A friend of mine is having problems with his machine, it has been back to Minelab in Ireland and they say it is ok so it must be him!!
He is not picking up small items such as buttons lead tokens and small items and I wonder if it is just to much discrimination. He doesn't seem to be able to adjust it  in any way.. Anyone using the 70 with some useful tips please.

Hi Pat

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Xterra 70 a few months ago i was selling one for a friend
I had serious thought about selling my Explorer and buying it i was very impressed.
What struck me was the Xterra numeric digital Display was always accurate.
something you cant say for the Explorer ,
The Explorer does ok on the bench but in real time its thrown by the size and distance from the coil
Tell your friend to try
WWW.MINELABOWNERS.COM
Great help section on the xterra or if hes not online maybe you could print the section off
Sorry i cant be of more help But i only had the machine a few days  Sad

All the best
Phil

When i used the Terra 70 it was always in All Metal, 3 tones, treshold no more than at 3 and my favorite coil was 6 " DD 18,75 kHz.
With this i could tune sens up real high and still it worked stable, and the DD`s edge is real razorsharp and with the fast response- its a Killer !
The 10,5" DD 7,5 kHz is also a good one, deep but not that sharp edge...
The elliptic one where unstable on mineralized ground, and the 9" consentric 3 kHz  only found high- conductive stuff. Stock- coil where better !(but prefer 10,5 and 6")
Ground balance your machine regulary to keep it "hungry" ! (at least 2 times an hour, or when going from rocky to sandy, wet unto dry soil, from sunny into shady etc.)
Wet, sandy beach- forget it ! (of course better than nothing, but  it needs low sense and coil above ground, if you walk beaches often, get a multi-frequented machine)
