found today just wondering why there appears to be 2 cs in charlie

Don’t know much about coins but wondered if it might be an over-strike or maybe something to do with coins struck after his death.
I had a quick look and couldn’t see one with a triangle. Maybe Roland will know more when he sees it.

I  think  the triangle  mm is for the tower mint 1639 to 1640.

Nice coin. It has been partially mis-struck, with doubling of several parts of the design, such as the 'VI' of the denomination as well as the 'C' of 'CAROLVS'

Agree with the Doc.

These coins were struck with a roller press - and often shifted between 'strikes'. some of the earlier strikings survive in areas where the pressure wasn't as high in the later strike or where there was an uneven flan.

Nice find. Never found a Charlie shilling.

What bests me with Doc and Probono replies, the “c” is very prominent, why is there no sign of the other letters being double struck, to some extent I can see the uneven flan theory but for a single letter to come through it must of been a very high spot.
What and when was the roller press introduced, so these are not really hammered coins?
