Bought this Roman coin at the boot sale today for the grand sum of 50p, Needs cleaning, but I think it`s a Denarius. Any suggestions ??

It looks like a Severan coin - probably Caracalla - but it's hard to tell (from the encrustations) whether it is a limes denarius (non-silver version) - or a provincial (less likely) or a silver denarius.

It looks like it has some iron corrosion on it too.

If it is a denarius, then some vinegar or lemon juice (which smells nicer) would be a start.

pop it in, give it a clean with a sponge or an old toothbrush, maybe put it back in again - repeat - it'll either show progress, or it won't Smiley
