Or should I say 'Bae Colwyn' ?

Not been out swinging the coil over sand for ages now; just couldn't get up a head of steam to get out there and start swinging. Perhaps a touch of the blues, poor health, or simply old age appears to be cramping my style; or perhaps it's all three!

I have finally bitten the bullet and have decided to try further down the Welsh coast than my regular beach at Talacre. I'm presently planning on giving Colwyn Bay a go but will leave the Safari and kitchen sink at home and be travelling and working light.

Any advice for detecting Colwyn Bay will be gratefully received.

Good news Chris. Take advantage of the better weather if you can. We haven’t had much of a Summer so far. Let’s hope it stays fine for you.
Had a few sessions myself recently but today ticked all the boxes. Sunny but not too hot, easy digging and plenty of signals. Didn’t find that hoard again but enjoyed a few hours away from those 4 walls. Great, I can recommend it.
It’s not the finding that makes it worth the effort. It’s the being there.  Wink

Mornin Val,

will be July before I can get me down to Colwyn Bay but will give Talacre a half day next week and see how things go. I used to love those early morning starts when the sands and the dunes would take on a totally different atmosphere.

At least someone is getting out Smiley

I don't know whether it is the weather or life or both that's stopping me detecting - I know the land I go to seems very empty at the moment Smiley I turned on my CTX the other day, getting ready to sell it as it has been causing me hip ache when using the 17" coil, and the LCD had stopped working - and it had been in my house minding its own business! Even my ETRAC is held together with gaffer tape and elastoplasts (for the arm rest and the coil cover)..... I'm hoping we'll get some decent weather when the crops come in Smiley

I did a bit of gardening yesterday and had trouble getting down on my hands and knees and then had more problems getting up again! Normally, on the beach, I use my spade or scoop to assist me getting down, or up.

Superb detecting weather here in Widnes yesterday and today but I couldn't get out to swing either detector; the Q40 or the Safari. I have got permission, off her who must be obeyed, to hit Talacre sands on Wednesday next but hopefully will also be able to call in on a chap down there and see if it is still on for me to detect a very small plot on his land.

I often found that a bit of company whilst detecting helped to chase away the blues but lone detecting could also be refreshing.

Didn't realise you were from Widnes Smiley

A friend of mine from uni - who we called 'Irish Stacy'  was from there and talked fondly of what he said was the 'Museum of Smells' Smiley.

[he's not Irish, although he claimed some Alabama heritage - quite a character, and ended up as head of foreign exchange quants at HSBC until recently]

What a nice gent your friend must be; a museum of 'smells' would be a very kind way of putting it! Smiley The town once earned the title 'The dirtiest town in the UK'.

Most, if not all, the smelly factories are now gone and you can actually smell the changes of seasons as they come and go. Rumour had it that Hitler launched a poison gas attack on Widnes but noboddy even noticed. The Romans spent several hundred years in Britain but appear not to have settled or visited Widnes! Now, Warrington ( just up river ) was quite popular with our Roman visitors.

A bankholiday outing for us kids was spent on the south bank of the Manchester Ship Cannal and the passing tugs provided us with waves to paddle in.

Jeez, looking back has just made me realise how much I now have to be thankfull for!
