Found today, the artefact looks like it has a cross on one side and some strange pattern on the other. It looks like some of what I presume is enamel is missing. It reminds me of a medieval horse pendant but the enamel looks different on them. I did clean it a little but the edges are very brittle and I really don't want to damage it. Also on one side I think i can see the words HIT Huh  Roll Eyes maybe it's just my eyes Grin
any info would be much appreciated  Smiley

Certainly a curious item but no idea what it could have been. No sign of any attachments which makes wonder if itís a broken off bit. Looks to be Medieval but ?

The sixpence is very nice. George 3rd silvers very often come up looking like that. I was lucky to find one in near unused condition. Makes you wonder what, if anything, was added to the silver to make it more durable.

Thank you Val, yes it's definitely a strange one Huh I wouldn't be surprised if it is medieval because where I found it other medieval items have been found close by. When it came out of the ground it looked like it has been there a long time - Yes the sixpence is lovely and a first for me, I bet when you found it it was gleaming   Grin

If I could post a pic Iíd show you. Yes at least 2 of them came out gleaming. Found another in a chunk of black stuff off the beach and even that one, although very worn, came out looking like silver.
I had a run on sixpences a few years back. Georgeís were the oldest but got a collection from him onwards. Virtually every trip a winner.
Used to be like that with half-crowns. Havenít found one of them for ages.

Saxon? Garnets? Looks similar to something from the Staffordshire hoard but less shiny!
