For those who haven't seen them elsewhere, here are some images of the weekend hoard. think it was up to 10 gold and 600 hammered with the rest of the pot still to come out! It was amazing watching them being found live in the field via Facebook Live - I know some people aren't into that but it really is a game changer when you see it.

Must have been a few pints drunk that night! Well done to all involved.

Think there were a number of machines, 4 finders to share the hoard. Think I saw a nox and an e-trac.

I did read, somewhere, the silver pennies were on excess of 800. No mention of the Nobles.
Must have been one of the finders because he commented he never wanted to see another hammered penny again ! He should be so lucky.  Grin

seen on another forum

"In total, there are 545 silver pennies and 12 gold nobles.

The Medieval face value of these coins in total comes to £8, 5 shillings and fivepence!

In 1350 this would have had the purchasing power of (broadly speaking): 11 horses, or 22 cows, or c. 413 days of a skilled tradesman's wages,

The modern equivalent of this sum is about £4900"

Great find indeed, does anyone know what dates the coins were from?

There were gold nobles in there, but no groats.

This dates it to after 1344 - but it depends on whether the groats just weren't part of it, or if they hadn't issued any by the time it was deposited.

If the later, then the hoard must be from 1344 - 1351. Some one mentioned 'double leopards', but I can't see any in there.

The hoard I found had quarter nobles and a half noble, but the limited silver was mainly groats (there was one half groat and two pennies) - that was dated to around 1365 or so, but was more like a purse loss rather than a deliberate hoard like this latest one.
