Hello all.  Grin

A recent outing brought this to the surface from around 7" deep. I'm guessing its bronze due to its color and weight. It seems to be snapped, and one end has a molded cup holding a white/cream object. I don't know if this is plastic, or maybe bone?? But its also broken. I have no idea what it is, nor anyone I've shown it to.  And if its just a bit of old tractor, why would it have such a ornate twist? According to a local guy who researched the history of the land, the field was last ploughed in 1945 and has been pasture then let to grass ever since Please help  Huh

It's a Bronze Age worm Smiley

On a serious matter I haven't a clue but the metal somehow doesn't look very old, something within the last 200-300 years at most if you ask me.

Could it possibly be one half of a bronze torque?

Torque was the first thing that came into my head as well but what age, I don't know. I believe torques where worn during Bronze Age and Iron Age and also worn by Vikings. I have seen similar on the net, but am not clever enough to copy to this post. Somebody might though  Smiley

What about this

p.s.  I don’t think it’s a torque. Looks more like a very large nail. Ship, maybe ?
We’ve used similar, much smaller ones on the barn.
